Last night, New York City residents would’ve thought a sold-out rock concert was taking place inside the Jacob Javits Center’s Empire Stage. However, the roaring applause and screams from the crowd were the result of a surprise appearance from the animatronic stars of the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 film. During Jason Blum’s BlumFest panel, which celebrated the 15-year anniversary of the horror blockbuster juggernaut, the room erupted as Toy Freddy and Toy Bonnie, the new movie’s main animatronic cast, made their way to the center of the stage. The surprises didn’t stop there either, as they were joined by human cast-members Elizabeth Lail and Matthew Lillard, who play Vanessa and William Afton in the films. Alongside sat Jason Blum, the mastermind behind it all and director Emma Tammi.
The panel served as the ultimate payoff for fans who have been eagerly anticipating the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. Five Nights at Freddy’s mega-fans filled the massive convention hall with their best cosplay outfits, and braced themselves for the major casting announcements that took place throughout the discussion. During the panel, director Emma Tammi revealed that video game voice actor Kellen Goff would be taking the helm as the role of Freddy Fazbear in the sequel, alongside YouTuber MatPat who will portray Toy Bonnie, and last-but-not-least Toy Chica who will be portrayed by Megan Fox in the film. The crowd erupted with every single announcement and the excitement didn’t stop there either.
On top of the surprise guests and casting announcements, the electricity in the room continued to build up, Jason Blum announced that everyone in the crowd would be getting sent home with a New York Comic-Con exclusive Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 shirt. The design features the new “Toy” animatronics on its back design, with the front touting a “New York Comic-Con – Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” logo. The BlumFest panel was a rapid-fire stream of announcements, giveaways and surprises that no one could’ve guessed, and I’ll definitely be making a return for next year’s panel.
