I had the chance to attend the activation for the upcoming HBO Max series “IT: Welcome to Derry”. Upon arrival to the Union Square Party City pop-up, I was greeted with sprawling window displays & graphics, showcasing Bill Skarsgård’s return to his iconic clown role. The event took place after the blockbuster television show’s New York Comic-Con panel, which took the Empire Stage by storm.

Also in attendance at the event were director & producer duo Andy & Barbara Muschietti, who most notably are the driving force behind 2017’s IT remake and it’s follow-up film IT: Chapter Two. After welcoming the crowd, the pair debuted 10 minutes of exclusive footage, and re-welcoming us to the town of Derry once again. The first ten minutes of the episode flew by and it felt as if audiences pick up right where we left off. The same sense of terror that was found in the theatrical releases is present once again here, with anticipation building towards seeing Skarsgård’s performance which is still being kept mostly under-wraps until release. After the footage concluded, the Muschietti siblings took the stage once again. They watched along from the crowd to garner some initial reactions and feed off the horror of the room itself as we witnessed it all. After the crowd’s applause finally quieted, they announced that we would also be getting a look at the new red-band trailer for the series. Upon a single viewing, it was truly too much to take in all at once. As a longtime follower of the franchise, I just cannot wait to see IT return soon in what feels like 27 years of anticipation.

After the footage concluded, Andy and Barbara took part in a signing and I couldn’t have been more excited. For those of you who have been following along for a long time, it’s the world’s worst-kept secret that IT is one of my favorite movies ever. I got the chance to get my Welcome to Derry poster signed, along with some other collectibles. This day was one for the books in my own personal career, and I couldn’t be happier.

The new series IT: Welcome to Derry will make its debut later this month, hitting HBO Max on October 26th. My calendar is marked and ready, and I can’t wait to follow along as the series progresses. With 8 episodes in store, each clocking in at around an hour in length, I can’t wait to be back in the world of IT once again.
