“Freshly Baked: The Robot Chicken Santa Claus Pot Cookie Freakout Special: Special Edition” Review!

Robot Chicken returns once again tonight to Adult Swim with an all-new special perfect for the holiday season. Titled, Freshly Baked: The Robot Chicken Santa Claus Pot Cookie Freakout Special: Special Edition, the quarter-hour episode is full of laughs, and covers everything from Santa accidentally eating a pot brownie to  Krampus and the Coal Lumps singing about all the terrible things children can do to receive coal on Christmas.

The special also features an appearance from Robot Chicken‘s recurring Nerd character, as he runs into Santa once again, following the events of the previous Christmas special. Viewers also get to experience Santa rapping side-by-side with Jesus, which I never thought I needed to see before watching the episode. The special kept to one plot throughout, and doesn’t deviate from the overarching story throughout its 11-minute run time. As always, the stop-motion animation looks great, and the story is full of the twisted jokes we have all come to know and love from the series.

One thing that may come as a surprise to viewers is the sheer amount of musical numbers found in the special. Robot Chicken seems to be steadily evolving their format over the years, and the team isn’t scared to try something new. Back in the Walking Dead special that aired this past October, I was particularly a fan of Negan’s over-the-top musical sequence.  Fans can expect content similar to this in the 2017 holiday episode. From the specials leading up to new episodes of the show, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for season 9!

Overall, Freshly Baked: The Robot Chicken Santa Claus Pot Cookie Freakout Special: Special Edition is a hilarious special chock-full of everything that makes Robot Chicken one of my favorite shows in the current Adult Swim lineup.  This holiday special also marks the premiere of Robot Chicken‘s ninth season. Robot Chicken‘s Christmas episode airs tonight, December 10th, at 11:30 PM (ET/PT) on Adult Swim.
