Earlier this month Delcourt Group, the leading independent comic book publisher in France, announced a groundbreaking expansion into the global market, launching a line of digital-first English language comics available exclusively on Comixology, the revolutionary cloud-based digital comics platform. The collaboration between Delcourt and Comixology marks the first time Delcourt’s comics will be directly available in English, and is set to deliver over 150 acclaimed Delcourt titles over the next year. It begins this month with some of France’s most popular titles, including The Curse of the Wendigo, illustrated by The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, Come Prima by Alfred, the graphic novel which won the Prix du Meilleur Album at the 2014 Angoulême International Comics Festival. Adlard himself had the following to say about his work on The Curse of the Wendigo: “It was a great honour and a privilege to work on this book, which has everything I want in a story: a great setting and mood and intriguing characters. I really wanted to up my game on the book, too, because this is French comic books – the quality speaks for itself.”

There certainly is plenty to be said of the quality of French comics, given that according to Delcourt founder Guy Delcourt, “France has one of the most vibrant markets for comic books and graphic novels in the world, comparable in size to the U.S. market. In France,” he continued,” we may call graphic novels ‘bandes dessinées’ but the diverse stories we publish deliver the kind of action, intrigue and personal drama that American readers are accustomed to reading.” The publishing deal between Comixology and Delcourt will bring this content to English-speaking readers in an unprecedented manner, giving Comixology’s user base access to an even wider selection of thrilling tales on top of the service’s over 75,000 comics, graphic novels and manga from more than 75 publishers.

“I’ve long been impressed with Delcourt’s publishing slate, and I’m excited for what they’re bringing to comiXology,” said Thrillbent co-founder and Insufferable co-creator, Mark Waid. “It’s a smart pairing of a digital forerunner and a savvy publisher.”

We’ll be celebrating this groundbreaking partnership with a full week of reviews featuring some of the Delcourt comics that are available in English exclusively on Comixology now– including tomorrow’s new release Husk #1!
