After taking on the Star Wars films and creating two parodies centered around the DC Universe, Robot Chicken has now come to take a crack at another one of the world’s biggest franchises — The Walking Dead. Combining the two currently-running television shows that I hold closest to my heart, The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking does an incredible job of blending the humor found in the Adult Swim sketch show with the characters of the AMC franchise. Featuring original new voice work from members of the AMC television show’s cast, the half-hour special riffs on some of the memorable scenes that made many into Walking Dead fans. As a longtime follower of both Robot Chicken and The Walking Dead, it was interesting to see they way in which the writing team approached certain scenes, and the ways that they worked in some original gags. Seeing iconic Robot Chicken characters like the Nerd interact and work alongside those of The Walking Dead universe such as Carl Grimes was also quite enjoyable.
With three musical numbers and loads of sketches, Look Who’s Walking will definitely not disappoint hardcore fans. There is truly nothing like hearing Michael Rooker sing a ballad while portraying his character Merle Dixon during a sketch set in the show’s first season. Moments such as this are what make this special stand out, and why I’ve always had a love for the humor found in Robot Chicken. Appearances from The Walking Dead cast are wholesome and work to deliver some awesome jokes throughout the episode’s thirty-minute run time. Taking place anywhere from anywhere from the show’s beginning until its most recent season, the writers team made sure to take on every topic they could during this amount of time. Fans of the popular Talking Dead series also may want to keep their eyes out during this special, as there is a sketch featuring Chris Hardwick, the show’s host.
Overall, creators Matthew Senreich and Seth Green have hit the nail on the head with their newest parody special. Providing fans with a worthwhile reel full of laughs, The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking is not one to miss for Walking Dead fans. This weekend at New York Comic-Con, we also had a chance to talk with some of the Robot Chicken crew about how the episode was made, so feel free to check back soon for our interview coverage!
